Biking in Norway’s Golden Fall

An autumnal scene of a waterfall in Oslo

Oslo is about to enter its golden season and you would be hard pressed to find anywhere that matches the beauty of Oslo in fall. As an incredible Norwegian summer is drawing to a close, it’s time to leave the beaches behind and go hiking and foraging for berries and mushrooms, swap sunscreen for scarves and enjoy the incredible fall sunsets. As for us in Viking Biking & Hiking, we will be guiding our Oslo tours as usual, even into the winter!

Every fall visitors to Oslo seem to be just as surprised at just how gorgeous the city looks all clad in yellows and reds. Day trips from Oslo will have you going past miles and miles of fall-time views and even just a guided Oslo tour will have you passing plenty of beautiful fall scenery. For Norway bike tours, all you’ll need is a good jacket and a scarf and you’ll be more than warm enough. From September onwards we offer Oslo bike rentals as well as our tours and you can rent bikes for a day or a few days with locks and helmets included.

High season for tourism will be winding down in September and October, making it the perfect time to visit all of Oslo’s museums, parks, restaurants, cafes and of course, to do Oslo guided tours. If you want to avoid biking through crowds, this is the time to visit. There really aren’t many downsides to visiting Oslo in fall, it’s colder in the water, but we get the gulf stream here which helps a lot. I would call the temperature of the water “bracing”! There are even floating saunas all along Oslo’s harbor to warm up in.

Visiting Oslo during fall is not a second best option. I have never met a single tourist in fall who has lamented that they couldn’t come in summer instead. So come visit, take an Oslo tour! We’ll show you around one of the most beautiful places you have ever seen!
