Viking Biking and Hiking: Better than ever!
After a gorgeous spring it is finally summer here in Oslo and the Oslo bike tours are in full swing. Going to the Akershus Festning, the city hall, the royal palace, the Vigeland Sculpture Park and finally to Aker Brygge, all while biking through the beautiful streets of Oslo. Viking Biking has been doing Oslo tours since 2012, both Oslo bike tours and Oslo island hopping tours, and we have improved both as a company and as guides since our beginnings as a small Oslo tour company. While doing Oslo winter tours was fun, guiding in the sun and the warmth is a welcome change!
Small beginnings
Viking Biking started as just a small company in 2012, doing Oslo bike tours out of a small office in downtown Oslo for just a few people at a time, a far cry from the up to 10 tours daily that we do today! At this point we were still working out the tour routes and how to give the best tours we could. At this time there were not many bike tours in Oslo yet and we had next to nothing to go off of when making our own tours. Even the names of the tours took a long time to nail down. It was a hectic time, especially as the company started getting some attention and started growing. New guides would be hired and trained, each with a slightly different style and personality, adding more and more to our collective guiding knowledge, experience and skill set. From three guides in 2012 to 36 guides in 2024, you could say we’ve come a ways since then. We can now do everything from German guided tours in Oslo to Mandarin. Not only have we improved as guides and as a company but tours in Oslo have also become better over the years as the city has more bike paths and more car free areas than ever.
The only thing that hasn’t changed in these 12 years is how we guide. We aim to do Oslo tours that have it all and that leave everyone satisfied, whether they are history buffs or sightseers, kids or adults, native English speakers or not.
How we guide differently
What makes Viking Biking tours different from others is that we focus on tour participant enjoyment, our groups are reasonably sized and our guides are personable and approachable. We find that encouraging our tour participants to interact with our guides makes for a lot more interactive and engaging tour experience. Our goal with our Oslo tours is simply to have an enjoyable time seeing the city. Us guides are very knowledgeable and we love to share our knowledge of the city and of Norway, but we aim to give our tour participants a balanced Oslo tour experience between biking or walking, the guide talking about the tour stops and the tour participants exploring the stops themselves. At the end of the guided tours we give recommendations for museums, swimming spots, restaurants, bars and where you can get an bike rental Oslo. There is so much to see in Oslo, just one bike tour Oslo is not enough to see it all. We offer two different guided Oslo tours, one bike tour and one walking tour. Our Oslo bike tour heads out at 10am or before and 2pm or before, the Oslo island hopping tour leaves at 10:30am and 11am. We also have five different tours as Oslo private tours, all of which are completely different from each other! You can even make your own custom tour as us guides can take you wherever you would like!
