What to Wear & Bring for a Bike Tour in Oslo

I’ll be noting temperature as Celcius/Fahrenheit, so for example 20C/68F.

Norway is a place where you can see each season in its full glory, whether it’s the cool spring with snow melting and flowers budding, the summer with temperatures up to 30C/86F degrees and 25C/77F in the water, the golden autumns or the white winters. What to wear for which season can be tricky, but I got you. As we say on our Oslo tours: There’s no bad weather, only bad clothes! (It rhymes in Norwegian 😉

Spring 🌸🐝🪻

Spring can be tricky to dress for, as it can be 20C/68F degrees or more in May, while there’s still snow piles melting on the street. It can go from freezing to warm over just a few weeks in spring and people on our Norway bike tours and Island Hopping tours are sometimes not prepared. In March and April it might still be snowy enough that it feels like winter and early May will be around 15C/59F. Dress for cool weather with scarves and gloves until May. Bring rain gear and appropriate footwear as well, otherwise, we sell rain ponchos for the Oslo bike tours.

Summer 🚤🌻⛱️

After a long, long winter, everyone in Norway throws off their wool clothes in anticipation of the warmer weather… and immediately gets a cold. It happens every year and we will never learn. But you can do better on our Oslo walking tours and cycling tours Norway! It’s usually between 15C/59F and 25C/68F, a proper Norwegian summer! By July, however, we’re finally in midsummer and you can do the Oslo tours in your shorts! Until August you can expect warm summer weather every day with sunshine from 4am to 10pm! SPF 50 and a rain poncho is all you’re gonna need on the Oslo bike tours. August will be much like June, so prepare for the Oslo tours accordingly.

Autumn 🍂🎃🌧️

From September we will start seeing the apples ripen, the strawberries and raspberries will come out and the weather gets cooler. The temp will drop to around 13C/55F at the end of September, but the weather will be warm-ish until then, perfect for an Oslo bike tour or Oslo walking tour. Autumn here is known for its rainy days and you’ll want to prepare rain clothes from top to toe, a handful of days per month will have rain all day during autumn and we do our Oslo tours no matter what!

Winter ❄️☃️⛷️

The snow will most likely start falling sometime late November, but the Oslo bike tours and Oslo walking tour forge on! The temps can be okay through November, but even then we can get freezing temperatures which will continue until April. You’re gonna want to get your wool on. Wool leggings, undershirt, socks, scarf and a hat and pair of gloves along with a warm jacket or coat is what you’ll need for the Oslo winter tours. Meanwhile, the bikes will all have spiked tires and on the walking tours you’ll be provided with crampons which will keep us firmly upright on our Oslo tours! All you need to do is enjoy the beautiful white vistas of Oslo.

And with that, you’re prepared for whatever the Norwegian weather has in store! Norway is a beautiful country no matter what time of year it is and Oslo always has stuff going on. I hope to see you on tour soon, and happy travels!
